Vita Mix Corporation keeps telling consumers that the Vita Mix 5200 blender is equally strong as the 3 hp blender and that the 3 hp motor is installed in the VP 1005 to keep it cooler because of its expected commercial use... so they say. Look at the Vita Mix commercial blender page and read for yourself what Vita Mix says about the awesomeness of the 3 hp Vita Mix blender blending abilities. Vita Mix calls it a 3 + peak hp blender:

" The Vita-Prep 3 has more power to handle the thickest, toughest ingredients! Grind meats for pâte or chop tough vegetables for authentic Mexican salsa without overheating!"

So, what do you call that? You are buying a workhorse for $ 495 including Shipping 48 USA States.

The Vita Mix 5200 comes with a 2 hp motor (Peak or no peak or +, it could mean a hassle if you blend the thickest or toughest ingredients, shutting down to prevent over-heating...). It blends just fine, don't get us wrong, but the 3 hp blender, the Vita Prep 3 has been engineered for the Nursing Home Industry where our elderly folks live. By the time you buy the Vita Mix 5200 2 hp Blender, add about $5 to $10, and the Vita Mix Vita Prep 3 hp blender is yours.

The Vita Prep 3 has a 3 years warranty consisting of a 1 year labor and a 3 years material warranty. When you call Vitamix nowadays, the Residential Rep will try to talk you out of the Vitamix Vita Prep 3/1005 blender with the argument that the Vitamix 5200 has a 7 years warranty and after 1 year is over on the Vita Prep 3, you would have to pay something like $ 130 for the blender to get it repaired (for labor).

But think about it, this Vita Prep 3 is a commercial blender with a 3 hp motor, more durable, blends faster, cools better,... than the 5200 model, why would you have it repaired only after 1 year when you use it in a residential setting maybe once or twice a day instead of 100 times in a restaurant?  I recommend to use the heck out of your Vita Prep 3 blender in the first few months. Any Warranty is against factory and material defects and does not cover normal wear and tear. If something is not right, then it will break quickly or you are going to notice it right away. And if wear and tear is the reason, the 5200 warranty won't cover wear and tear either.

Also think about Vitamix's interest to sell consumers for residential use the 5200 Vitamix model over the stronger 3 hp commercial blender? The reps are motivated by commissions. The Vitamix company is motivated by profits. In other words, Vitamix does not want consumers to buy the 3 hp commercial blender because they make more money on the 5200 blender. And if you are a commercial user, Vitamix does not want you to buy the 5200 model because you are going to break it quicker (very likely) than in a household use.

Refurbished 5200 Vitamix Blenders

If you are still considering the Vitamix 5200 Blender, ask yourself please "How many refurbished blenders can one factory have?". The many 5200 blenders Vitamix has as refurbished are either really refurbished or they are brand-spanking-new. If they are refurbished this means that Vitamix gets them returned from unsatisfied customers. And if they are brand-spanking-new, only re-designated as refurbished (at $ 379), then Vitamix is just renaming them as refurbished to unload a too large of an inventory in stock because these blenders may not sell fast enough, and also to avoid prosecution from Costco and Sam's Club, etc... because of breach of contract. You are the judge. Either way, as long as Vitamix sells refurbished 5200's, something is not right. And I suggest you stick with the Vitaprep 3 hp choice, because it just a better blender.

Chewing problems... get it? Although not all of us have chewing problems, and we should really chew each bite about  10 to 20 times, it is just not going to happen anymore in this busy world. We don't even take time to go to the .... you know what I mean!

The most important blending requirement: If you want to blend, emulsify, micronize, whatever the term, Chia Seeds, Strawberry Nuts, Raspberry Seeds, Avocado Seeds... you need the 3 hp Blender. Alternatively, if you cannot afford the Vitamix Vita Prep 3, you might as well just consider the OMNI V 3 hp Heavy Duty Blender starting at $ 250.00. The OMNI V 3 hp blender is like a heavy duty diesel truck with lots of torque and sufficient speed. It is not as fast as the Vita Prep 3, but it does everything equally well as the Vitamix. It only takes a little longer. The Taiwanese factory has been around for more than a decade. 123Vita, LLC has inspected this blender and put it through rigor testing - see Videos. I would not recommend this blender if it were not a good quality blender. Let me put it this way: The OMNI V blender competes really well in its class against the Vitamix 5200 and the Vitamix 4500 blenders any time of the day. And 'wow'; Can you believe the price point? Once again, I like the Vita Prep 3 better, but for consumers who want to save nearly 200$ Bucks and still get all the blending done perfectly, I recommend the OMNI V.

Between the Blendtec and the Vita Mix 3 hp blenders is also a sturdiness difference and the Vita Mix blenders are easier to use, with the tamper, the manual on/off switch, turning knob for variable speed and the override fast/pulse switch. The Waring MX1050XT runs in the price range along with the HP3A, and that has a 3.5 hp motor. The Waring 3.5 hp MX1200XT blender is about $ 35 below the Vita Mix 3 hp blender. The problem I have seen with Waring is that their containers are lacking style and quality or integrity, compared to Vitamix. And Blendtec is really a much inferior product. Yes, Blendtec (HP3A) costs less and seems to be a bargain for the power, but if compared carefully, anybody can quickly see the challenge Blendtec has in comparison to the Vitamix blenders - for more info see the page "CHOOSE".

But don't go just about hp strength alone. We have seen and tested claimed-3-hp blenders that performed as good as a 2 hp blender (OMNI for example). A 2 hp blender is really a good start, and it does essentially what the 3 hp blender does, with however a difference in time that it takes to blend. And because the 3 hp blender has more torque, it can handle the tiny seeds that the 2 hp cannot blend as easily. If you have ulcerative colitis or something like that, you may feel sensitive to tiny seeds in your digestive system. If money is no issue to you, the Blendtec 3.5 hp 20 AMP Smoother between $800 to $ 1000 can help you there. Are you now confused? Sorry about that. The 3 hp motor cranks through just about every possible ingredient, supported by its torque-12.5 AMPs and 1500 Watts. Two carriages are moving up on a hill. One carriage has 2 horses and the other one has 3 horses. Both have the same load and both get there at the same time. Speed is not an issue anymore. The 2 hp blender has already been proven fast enough. It just exhausts faster and heats up faster and wears out faster and gives in to crank requirements faster. It really takes about twice as long to make a good smoothie in the Vita Mix 5200 2 hp blender in comparison to the 3 hp Vita Mix Vita Prep 3.

Raspberry and Strawberry seeds, even the infamous Avocado Seeds or others ... are blending smooth in about 20 + seconds while the 2 hp Vita Mix blender takes about 40+ seconds. This means you need less ice, less power, and you have more time to do other things. But that is not all: The Vita Prep 3 hp Blender has more longevity and durability than the 2 hp blenders from Vita Mix.

Get the Vita Prep 3.  It will handle all your soups, pate's, purees, even easily the avocado seed blending (whatever purpose that may have), and it is a commercial blender. You will like it!
