Vita Mix calls it a 3 + peak hp blender: " The Vita-Prep 3 has more power to handle the thickest, toughest ingredients! Grind meats for pâte or chop tough vegetables for authentic Mexican salsa without overheating!"

The Vita Mix 5200 comes with a 2 hp motor. It blends just fine, don't get us wrong, but the 3 hp blender, the Vita Mix Vita Prep 1005 / 3 has been engineered for the Nursing Homes where our elderly folks live. By the time you buy the Vita Mix 5200 2 hp Blender, add about $5 to $10, and the Vita Mix Vita Prep 3 hp blender is yours.
