Vita Mix 5200 Blender-Compare with Vita Mix 3 hp Blender
Blender Review
The OMNIBlend V 3hp High Performance Blender for $ 250 is here! The Vita Mix 5200 blender is a 2 hp blender. It is perhaps the most advertised Vita Mix blender on the high performance
The 2 hp Vita Mix blender used to cost at Costco $ 399 plus local applicable sales tax and at Vita Mix Corp or your favorite affiliate marketer it costs $ 449 plus your local sales tax. Now you can buy apparently the Vita Mix 5200 package at CostCo only with a cooking pan and 2 extra containers. for $ 650 plus tax. They surely try to extract the consumers' money. Who can afford $ 700 for a blender these days. You might as well just buy the Blendtec ICB7 20 AMP Symbiotic Lawnmower blender.
When buying at Vita Mix direct, the coupon code offered for free shipping valued at $ 25.00 is of course a lure or a gimmick to get you to bite. It also ties the affiliate marketers to the sale so they can get a commission at about 15%. Vita Mix Corporation offers however free shipping anyway. If you want to buy this blender, call your local Costco, to find out when the next demonstration is going to take place. The advantage is that you can try it out and see if the 2 hp Vita Mix power is sufficient for you. (Call 801-623-3225)
We want to tell you of course that you can buy for just about the same investment (instead of the Vita Mix 5200) the Vita Mix Vita Prep 1005 / 3 hp blender, a commercial blender, made for the nursing home industry. Compare for your self and find out which blender is best for you. For example, you might want to consider also the Blendtec 3 hp HP3A blender (right image below) - FREE SOUND ENCLOSURE WITH PURCHASE OF Blender. You get the most power for the money when you buy this incredibly sophisticated power tool. Or, if you can't afford more than $ 300 anyway, then consider the OMNI 3 hp (yields 2 hp torque) Blender for $ 250.00.
The Vita Mix 5200 blender (aka Total Nutrition Center) comes with a Eastman Tritan container which is equipped with a soft-grip handle. No big deal, in our opinion. The BPA topic is rather questionable in its credibility. Bi-Phenol is used in the production of Polycarbonate containers as such to get the production started. Whether Bi-Phenol (BPA) is really a poison is uncertain. Of course the company that manufacturers Bi-Phenol says it is totally safe (LOL), according to the EPA. Not biased at all, right? Of course it is. But the BPA-Free campaigns by Blendtec and Vita Mix could merely be out of marketing reasons also.
OK, back to the Vita Mix 5200 blender; The popular Vita Mix 5200 blender has a customized Swedish 2+ Peak hp motor with a cooling fan that has a lower drag on the motor than the apparently the Vita Mix 5000 model, which was replaced by the Vita Mix 5200 in January 2008.
Variable speed knob, in the center, and the left-sided override switch to FAST PULSE are the main features. The Vita Mix blender concept is easy to operate. Not even a
blender operations guide for dummies exists for this 2 hp blender. Other Vita Mix models, such as the Vita Mix 3 hp Vita Prep 1005 / 3 and the 2 hp Vita Prep 2 are completely the same in its simple operation. The Vita Mix 3 hp blender however for the same money, and that being a commercial blender, is much more powerful than the Vita Mix 5200 blender. We have often wondered, and also inquired at Vita Mix headquarters why they didn't make the Vita Mix 5200 with the 3 hp motor? Well, its probably a money and profit thing. As you know, you get a 7 years warranty with the Vita Mix 5200 blender purchase (upgradable to a 10 years warranty for like $ 75.00), but the Vita Mix 3 hp commercial Vita Prep 1005 has a 3 years warranty.Of course, we could argue about the integrity and the real reason of extended warranty. One is that you might expect value out of it. To the other hand, it is probably unlikely, the Vita Prep 2 hp blender having exactly the same powerful but commercial motor version of the Vita Mix 5200, nothing will ever happen after a 3 year time frame. You may have just spent an extra $ 100.00 for the 7 years versus the 3 years warranty. But, it is certainly true, extended warranty does give a piece of mind.
The Vita Mix 4500 Turbo Blender (MAP at $399.95-Find out the actual discounted price by calling us 801-623-3225) has also a 2 hp motor. The only difference to the Vita Mix 5200 and the Vita Prep 2 hp / 1003 commercial blender is that it does not have the middle / center variable speed
knob. The turning knob for variable speed, which the Vita Mix 5200 blender, the Vita Mix Vita Prep 2 and Vita Prep 3 come with, is usually handy and fancy to chop nuts and other ingredients into larger pieces. You can control the speed of the sharp knives on the blade. Faster speed in these 2 hp and 3 hp Vita Mix blenders with variable speed yields in smaller fragments and slower speed yields in larger fragments, respectively. The 4500 Turbo blender, can chop with its slow speed switch position. The slow speed is a great way to begin your ice blending and get larger ingredients chopped smaller. Then commence with fast speed while holding on to the lid (Fasten Your Seat Belt - Not really). The Vita Mix 4500 Turbo Blender can blend hot soups and ice cold fresh smoothies, just like the Vita Mix Vita Prep 3(right) and the Vita Mix 5200 blender, and all other blenders! And of course, neither of the 2 hp Vita Mix blenders is an equal in their power to the Vita Mix Vita Prep 1005 / 3 hp blender. The Vita Mix 4500 Turbo Blender (left) is advertised at MAP for $ 399.95, (for $ 399.95 you get a free sound enclosure with it). CALL FOR BEST PRICE for the VITA MIX 4500 - 801-623-3225. If you can afford the 3 hp Commercial Vita Mix Blender, get it! You are not going to look back and say: "Darn, I wish I would have bought the 2 hp blender". Once you use the 3 hp torqued Vita Mix commercial Blender, there is no back. You are spoiled for ever. Or, if you cannot afford any of that, then consider the OMNI for $ 250. Please, do yourself a favor, and DO NOT consider the Leaky Rust-Bucket Montel Health Master Blender. It's a crime, nearly, that this blender deceives the consumer world of healthy living. The Vita Mix 5200 blender comes at its regular price in a black or a white base. For a little up-charge of $ 25.00, you can get it in a red base. The base Vita Mix 5200 model comes with one 64oz Tritan container, soft-grip handle, and a lid that has two flaps for a better grip/hold. Still, we like to recommend that you always put your hand on top of the lid while blending or when you turn on the blender. By accident the blender lid might not be sitting on the container tight enough and by accident you might have the over-ride switch on 'fast' set and whoops, there you go, all your beautiful ingredients are all over on your counter-top and on the bottom of your top cabinet and all over the blender... Besides the mess, better caution. This can happen to anyone.
You can also buy the Vita Mix 5200 package with a Vita Mix 32oz dry-blade container, including a wholegrain cookbook. This is great for blending and gr
inding your own whole
wheat, rice, and any other grains. The dry blade is specifically machined and engineered to blend and grind hard dry goods. You can certainly use your regular wet blade that your regular standard package 64oz container comes with. But if you use it a lot on a daily basis, the wet blade might wear out faster. Vita Mix 32oz dry-blade container with wholegrain cookbook is MAP-ped at a $ 144 price. We sell it for less. But if you think about it, and if you are a real home-maker bread baker, consider just buying a wheat grinder. You will get better and finer grains of wheat with it long-term. Yes, it has a huge advantage to have one machine that does it all. The Vita Mix 5200 blender certainly does it all and can do all or most of your food processing. It can't do slicing, and bread baking. It can do mixing though, but it does not do it as good as the K-Tec Mixer or the one from Bosch.
And in addition, back to the Vita Mix 5200 package options, you can buy the Vita Mix 5200 package with a 32oz container, and an additional 64 oz container with wet blade for about $ 650.00. And you get lots of fancy cookbooks and demonstration DVDs with it. This information is however also available for free online. And regarding recipes, we recommend you look at different websites. There is a rather large information source out there to give you ideas about hot soup, raw smoothies, and raw living in general.
Cooking soup with the Vita Mix 5200 blender is possible just like it is for the Vita Mix 4500 Turbo Blender, and the Vita Mix Vita Prep 1003 / 2 hp blender. It takes about 4 to 5 minutes. If you blend three to four soups contiguously one after another, your 2 hp motor will shut down. There is a safety switch that keeps your motor from over-heating. No matter 'Swedish custom 2+ hp peak motor' or not, it still shuts down. We tested it. The only Vita Mix blender that can handle heavy usage is the commercial Vita Mix Vita Prep 3 hp / 1005. All the high performance blenders come with this safety and motor-protective switch. Even the Vita Prep 3 has one. During a 1.5 years period, the Vita Prep 3 motor that we have been using on a daily basis for residential applications about 4 to 6 times a day, has shut down once. My wife was making several pastes and purees one after another and the ingredients were rather large. The motor safety switch shut the blender down for about 1 minute, to allow for cooling. And that was it.
When making soup or smoothies with a blender, such as the Vita Mix 5200, a sound enclosure comes in handy. Vita Mix offers the Whisper Blend
Sound Enclosure for about $ 200 to $ 250.00. It does not reduce the sound any better than our ($70) sound enclosure that comes with the Vita Mix 4500 Turbo Blender for FREE. The issue with noise, we have found, according to a research, is that it reduces and limits the usage of the high performance blender. In other words, would it not be for the noise, consumers / users would turn their blender on more frequently and that longer. This would yield in more healthier foods, more value to the nutrients, smoothies, and soups, etc... as opposed to really not completely finished smoothies or soups, blending cut short due to noise.
Of course, one could always wear ear plugs or other hearing protection, but that won't spare the neighbors or those other love-ones in your household from the noise. Even if it takes you just 40 seconds to make a smoothie, or 4 to 5 minutes to make soup, it is like a jack hammer next door. The Vita Mix 5200, actually all 2 hp blenders from Vita Mix run at about 92 to 95 dB and the 3 hp Vita Mix blender runs at 95 to 98 dB. The Blendtec 3 hp blenders are even peaking at 102 dB. Just think about it. Of course, this means one more box to take care of in your household. It might come in handy though. It is up to you to decide. Contact us with any of your questions. We will gladly help you decide which blender you might want to get, and whether you should consider the sound enclosure.
Look at the Vita Mix commercial blender web page and read for yourself what Vita Mix says about the awesomeness of the 3 hp Vita Mix blender blending abilities. Vita Mix calls it a 3 + peak hp blender: " The Vita-Prep 3 has more power to handle the thickest, toughest ingredients! Grind meats for pâte or chop tough vegetables for authentic Mexican salsa without overheating!"
