The HP3A Blendtec Blender comes with 25 pre-set programmed blending cycles instead of the 6 programs in the Total Blender. Both of them can do about the same things, generally speaking. According our customer feedback we have concluded that the majority of HP3A blender users just rely mostly on the up/down speed control buttons. But you can choose the blending cycle programs from a drop-down menu, view it in the blue LCD screen below, select one, and then press one of the 4 (1-4) keypads with the numbers 1-4 on it, hold down and wait until it beeps. You have then programmed one of the buttons with your favorite keys. As most users do, alternatively you can always fall back onto the manual speed (UP/DOWN) operation with 10 speed touch-key button intervals. This feature is on the very right on the keypad - see below to the right.
The HP3A is available in a Black, White, Red, or a Tan Motor Base. Also, the Blendtec HP3A 3 hp blender with either the 64oz or the 96 oz container in place on top of it, fits perfectly under the top cabinets on the counter-top at 15.5 inches tall. The keypad is easy to clean and of course it is water-proof.
- In our opinion, the HP3A 3 hp Blender is a better offer than the Blendtec Total Blender. It offers 25 programs; 19 more blending cycle programs than the Total Blender. You can choose any of the blending cycle programs as your favorite and chose the 1 through 4 key buttons to be set up (kind of a quick dial) so you can operate your favorite programs with just one button touch. Just call home, tell your children, 1 slice of pineapple, 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds, 1 toe of garlic, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of ice, 2 sticks of celery, and .... push # 1 (for example), and the smoothie makes itself.

- In our opinion and from what we have heard form our customers, the HP3A comes with great electronic sophistication. Blendtec has given its blenders' design great thought. For example, the blender fits nicely under a cabinet on top of your counter-top with a total of 15.5 inches in height.
Regarding the electronics however, for some it is too complicated to operate. Luckily the blender operating system has on the right side an up-and-down speed button (see above drawing). Consumers, who feel they have trouble operating so many different programs can consider just using the up/down speed control manually, or consider getting the Vitamix Vita Prep 3 or the Waring 3.5 hp blender. The HP3A blender could use a tamper at times. The factory of course does not make tampers. The blender is designed, just like the other Blendtec blenders that no tamper is needed. We make one and provide it for free with the purchase, just in case if you ever need one.
The Blendtec Blenders are made specifically with the design
in mind that a tamper or accelerator tool is not needed. Vita Mix has a patent
on the tamper functionality to eliminate air pockets. But I have noticed that a
push-tamper tool comes in handy as a safety device to push down ingredients
that are at times not picked up by the powerful blade without an air pocket
being present. I have even seen an apple and an orange stuck on top of a blade,
turning with the blade. Changing speed desperately did not help until I used
the home-made wooden dowel (as you see in the picture above). You can buy one
of these dowels for $ 8.75 incl USA 48 Shipping. If you buy a Blendtec Blender
from 3blenders.com, I will include the dowel for free.

TIME-OUT FEATURE:
When you select the manual operation, you will find that the blender features a 10 speed touch-key button program. On any of these speeds selected, the blender will time-out after 60 seconds. In other words, if you want to make soup, you just have to press the button over and over again until the soup is hot, after 4 or 5 minutes. Or simply make the soup starting out with hot water. It is probably not a good idea anyway going over 110 Degrees Fahrenheit, being a raw food enthusiast. Using the pre-programmed soup blending cycle, the program will shut off after 1 minute 30 seconds. That is actually the ideal time, or even less (under 1 minute) to blend your soup. If you blend it too long, for example 4 to 7 minutes, as is required with some blenders to get the liquid to 110 degrees or hotter, then you probably mix the liquid and ingredients with lots of air. This creates lots of foam. Especially making baby food, air can become a challenge for burp-troubled babies.

Not So Positive Things About The HP3A Blender
The Blendtec HP3A Blender is little difficult to operate with the 25 blending cycle programs. The weight of the total blender package on your counter top is 10 pounds. This
lighter weight than its competing Vita Mix blenders causes the blender wobble back and forth, which makes it appear little flimsy. But it is not flimsy, really! You are able to get a 3 hp blender (really about 2.5 hp if compared to the Vita Mix 5200 and the Vita Prep 1005 blenders) for less money than the Vita Mix 3 hp Vita Prep 1005 blender. But Blendtec has to shave off the expense somewhere.
Now, this does not mean that the Blendtec is a bad blender. It is a great blender, but the Vita Mix blenders are made heavier and sturdier. The Blendtec Blender is sturdy enough, but the Vita Mix is sturdier. I wish I could tell you another way, but it does not matter how you turn it, the Vita Mix blender is a sturdier blender.
In Picture above left, you can see the Blendtec HP3A (RED) with its container. This container has been used about 15 times. The OMNI Container to the left has been used with the same ingredients the same amount of times. Note the scratched or fogged-up area towards the bottom. And now compare the Blendtec Container with the Vita Mix container in the picture to the right. T the left you see a brand new container that has been used for the same amount of time as the Blendtec and the OMNI containers. To the right, you see a Vita Mix container what it looks like after 2 years of usage (used every day about 3 + times). The stain on the very bottom is really only water stain coming from hard water. If I had a small tool, or would remove the blade and the bottom plate (retaining nut), I could probably polish these stains out. Anyway, I am trying to show you here that the material in fact is somewhat different. There are of course also variables. Grain, rice, etc... primarily harder ingredients scratch up the container's inside more. But it looks like that the Blendtec Container regardless scratches up easier. But it costs also only about half the amount than the Vita Mix container.
Noise Issues
The Blendtec HP3A
runs on full power about 95 to 97 dB (decibels). With ice crushing
noises, the dB meter shows it over 100 to 105dB. When you make soup,
and we believe you should really make a fresh raw soup three to four
times a week, consider that every soup making cycle takes about 4 to 5
minutes.
This represents 4 to 5 minutes of noisy soup making at 97 dB +. We offer a solution here as well. Consider a Blender Sound Enclosure Box retro-fitted specifically for the Blendtec 3 hp HP3A, Total Blender, and the EZ Blenders. Of course other blenders such as the Connoisseur need it too. We will make sound enclosure in the future. In the meantime, you can shop for your sound enclosure at www.blendersoundbox.com.
