Blendtec Blenders (VIDEO)
The most electronically-shiny blenders are the Blendtec blenders. They come with 25 to 30 blending cycles
pre-set. (The Total Blender has 6 blending cycle programs to select) To some people, electronic sophistication is very complex. It requires some learning before it can be used properly and effectively. ...as if there is not already enough to learn when becoming a green-raw smoothie and blending enthusiast. If you don't already know, when making raw soups and green smoothies, eventually you are looking at a bigger or a second refridgerator, more storage containers in your pantry for nuts and seeds, and the increase of your recipe collection.
Taking the 3 hp blender power and the lower price of the blenders, than the 2 hp Vitamix blenders, for example, the Blendtec HP3A blender appears to deliver the bigger bang for the $$$$ Buck. The Vitamix 2 hp and 3 hp Blenders, and the Waring Xtreme 3.5 hp Blender, and the OMNI V 3 HP Blender Brands to the other hand, offer total manual power operation on most of their blenders and also a mix of electronic keypads.
If electronic buttons are too difficult for you, consider using the up/down speed control on your Blendtec HP3A blender (it has a 10 speed setting) or get the Vitamix or the OMNI V blenders. And of course, the price difference is also justified between Blendtec and Vitamix. See the images below. The red plastic does not snap into place where it is supposed to. And the power cord of the Blendtec blender is already starting to wear through, and the blender is brand new. This is a kind of a thing you will never see with the Vita Mix blenders. If you look up the Blendtec blender on the "CHOOSE" page, look closey; Even the power cord is already damaged in a brand new blender. Also go to the HP3A page and scroll down, you will see the foggy Blendtec container all scratched up (brand new, just used 15 times).
There is a quality or durability difference between these Blendtec blenders and the Vita Mix blenders. Waring and Vita Mix weigh between 17 to 12 pounds, depending which one you get. The HP3A and Total Blender weigh 10 pounds. The Blendtec container replacement cost is about $ 70 and Vita Mix replacement cost is about $110 to $120. The blade assembly of the Vita Mix blender containers alone costs about as much as the throw-away Blendtec container when replaced.
It is true that Blendtec is not a bad brand. This blender is good! But in my opinion, the others, Waring, Omni, and Vita Mix blenders are definitely sturdier. They just hold their blending-counter-top ground better while the Blendtec appears flimsy. But, don't be mistaken; for the money, especially about $ 450 with sound enclosure, the Blendtec HP3A is a powerful blending package.

Does the Blendtec HP3A or Total Blender or EZ Blender need a tamper?
These 3 hp blenders are designed with pre-set blending cycles. So they don't need a tamper. The need for a tamper is then an issue when the ingredients get stuck. When users don't follow instructions clearly this can happen. And if you have trouble, don't feel bad, I receive tamper orders for the HP3A or Total blenders all the time. Problems for example, can happen when blending with ice at times. Human nature is associated to making mistakes. You have either not enough fluid in the container or you push the incorrect blending-cycle function. ... Then, what do you do if you don't have a tamper? No, don't you use a fork or your hand, EVER!!!!!!! This could be dangerous. The blades at the tip have been measured running at about 300+ MPh. You should always have your appropriate lid in place. You can make a tamper yourself or buy the after-market-made tamper / Blender Driver from us. The tamper is made to fit the Blendtec EZ Blender jars / containers, the HP3A blender containers, and the Blendtec Total Blenders. Blendtec will not get into the tamper business because its design does not require it. So, be my guest and if you find you won't need a tamper, more power to you! Actually, if you think about, who wants to put a piece of wood or plastic (stick) into a container while the blade runs at a 30,000+ RPM. That is surely crazy.. About tampers, Vita Mix has a patent on tampers or accelerators, specifically designed to cancel or resolve the formation of air pockets. In our case we are offering a tampe to touch the ingredients, the larger ones, and those that get stuck directly on the blade, and hold them or push them until the blade can grab them and emulsify these rather hard or large ingredients...

Solutions - USE and LEARN
Although the Blendtec Total Blender and the Blendtec HP3A have a different amount of blending cycles programmed and the buttons are differently named, they are really just about the same in respect to functionality. The HP3A has the same programs accessible through its drop-down menu. So watch this Video on http://www.blendtec.com/demos.aspx. Remember, we are selling the HP3A blender and not the Total Blender and our HP3A Blendtec Blender costs less than the Total Blender at Costco... CostCo sells the Total Blender for $ 379 plus sales tax.
We have found, according to a study, that over 60% of consumers who are buying a household appliance won't use it. Ouch, imagine you are spending $ 400.00 for a high performance blender and then you only use it once or twice a week or not at all... The solutions for some people is to use the blender and learn to use it right. You will benefit from it anyway, even if you don't like electronics. We found that most people are intrigued by the shiny electronic features but have difficulties learning to use it right. Others (the lesser amount of consumers), unpack the blender and use all functions as second nature ... as if they were born with the instinct to push the right buttons.
Then start making smoothies immediately when you unpack the 3 hp Blendtec Blender and practice, practice, practice. You will live healthier, feeding your body more nutrients, and you will learn to use the Blender how it was intended. Think about: Is sticking any kind of object into a blade that runs about 240 MPH or 30,000 to 40,000+ RPMs safe? We are providing a safe wooden towel with your purchase, just in case you need to stir your ingredients and/or push down on them to get things moving for you.
In comparison to the Blendtec Blender Tamper issue, Vitamix lives by its Accelerator Tool (TM). It is rather safe with instructions and if used with the lid in place. But often we hear that consumers forget the lid or are to lazy to put it on and just quickly push down on the ingredients while the blender is running on a lower speed. And then it happens: Ooops, the tamper / accelerator tool gets blended into the smoothie as well. Then they call us for a cheaper wooden after-market Tamper. The Blendtec idea of not using or needing a Tamper at all, is certainly a really good one. But for some people it is just not realistic enough, according to what some customers tell us. And why would consumers make their tamper wooden dowel safety tool purchase from us if they didn't need it? I have seen restaurant operators with fork and spatula in hand trying to get their frozen strawberries blended... (Even with the Wooden Dowel that you get from us, you must use it with the lid in place, or else you can cause some damage to your blender, to the tamper, and possible injury to yourself).
Noise Issues
The Blendtec HP3A runs on full power about 99 dB (decibels). With ice crushing noises, the dB meter shows it over 105 dB. When you make soup, and we believe you should really make a fresh raw soup three to four times a week, consider that every soup making cycle takes about 4 to 5 minutes if you start out with cold water and want to end up at about 140 degrees Fahrenheit. This represents 4 to 5 minutes of noisy soup making at about 105 dB +. Luckily with the Blendtec blenders, or any others, when adding hot water to your soup ingredients, you will be about done at about 110 degrees or after about 90 seconds. Regardless, to dampen the noise by about 25 to 30 %, you can consider a sound enclosure. Consider a Blender Sound Enclosure Box fitted specifically for the Blendtec 3 hp HP3A, Total Blender, and the EZ Blenders. Of course other blenders such as the Connoisseur might need it too. You are the judge of what your own and your family's ears can take. You can shop for your sound enclosure at www.blendersoundbox.com or on this website too.Call us at 801-623-3225 for a SOUND ENCLOSURES FOR YOUR BLENDTEC BLENDER.
