You might want to consider your blender decision based on also the prices of accessories and replacement parts. But you may also consider the quality. It is true that the Vita Mix components are more durable, but the Blendtec is price engineered. Vita Mix does last longer than the Blendtec. But for restaurants and smoothie bars, the containers still need to be replaced even when still working, namely when the container does not look nice anymore. The more expensive Vita Mix container blade can be swapped out or you can also reuse the blade assembly and place it into a new Vita Mix container for little cost. This you cannot do in the less expensive Blendtec Container. In the beginning it may be less expensive to stock up Blendtec containers, but their blenders may be little more expensive when looking into the 3.5 hp blenders. Longterm you may be saving little more money with the Vita Mix containers. The Vita Mix containers, to the other hand are not stackable as the Blendtec Containers. And of course, Blendtec containers are adequately engineered to last a good while. Neither one, Blendtec or Vita Mix containers will break when dropping onto the floor.

So you can see, there is pros and cons on both. Of course we have a preference, but this should not be the basis of your decision. Buy that which fits your budget and need best. The Blendtec HP3A, and EZ Blenders, etc... are really the best power-for-dollar blenders to start out. Consider your space requirement in your smoothie bar, in your home kitchen, how many smoothies you make per day, and how many hungry mouths do you need to feed. Consider also your decision based on who you might disturb with the noise, Blendtec being slightly more noisy than the Vita Mix while both are sufficiently noisy to disturb a baby during his/her sleep. Consider a Sound Enclosure and the space where to put your blender and the sound enclosure.
